The City of Cape Coast is known as one of the fastest developing city in Ghana with history and tourist destination in Ghana from the journey on the sea from Cape Coast Castle to Elmina Castle or anywhere is “spiritual” to anybody that visits the Castle, and will be preferred by many.

No place in Ghana beats Cape Coast and Central Region in terms of International Tourists visitations. It is a well known fact that 8 out of 10 tourists to Ghana visits Cape Coast. It is also appropriate to note that what is being asked is an International Airport where tourists will land directly in Cape Coast without going through Accra.

Cape Coast as a city alone is made up of Academic Institutions that constitutes to over 200,000 people trooping in and out throughout the year (add Winneba, Ajumako and the population of students and staff in Cape Coast/Central surpasses some new created regions). These students come from all over the country and Africa especially with UCC, CCTU and UEW. University of Cape Coast have a significant number of International students from all over the world.

 The University of Cape Coast is host to many international academic conferences throughout the year. Just last, the University hosted the African University Conference which saw the participation of universities from all over Africa and one of Africa’s great Pan African, Prof. Lumumba. Which makes the city an historical one.

The people of this beautiful place have been demanding for Airport and ferry harbour that could be attached to the cargo handling harbour to serve as a transport for tourism purposes.

A sea transport from Accra, to the Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle will be a dream of many and a great addition to our tourism potentials. During Panafest, one of the key activities of the “Year of Return”, a good number of people were sea transported from the Cape Coast Castle to Elmina Castle using navy ships.

These people were transported from wooden fishermen’s boat on the coast and transferred to the bigger navy ships. Therefore, a ferry harbour that cruise ships can dock in addition to the cargo or container handling harbour will be very beneficial to the Region and especially Ghana as a whole.

What Cape Coast need is an airport and Harbour for the good people of Cape Coast/Central Region which is long overdue and it’s time the indigenous people join hands as residents of this great and historic city/region to make it a reality.
