Teachers are at the center of Ghana's economy because they produce the human resource required to drive the country's economy. Despite their massive contribution, they are always underpaid and less respected by other professions.

The government that would have understood their usefulness is the first to disobey or disregard them.

The Nana Addo led government however promised to improve the quality of life of Ghanaian teachers and as to whether he has kept his promise is a question for another day.

When Coronavirus hit the world and Ghana was badly affected, the Government announced some incentives for the frontline Doctors and Nurses and all health workers were to enjoy a tax waiver. The idea sounded interesting and the nurses embraced it.

Teachers on the other hand went on a break as schools were closed down. It was later that JHS, SHS, and the Tertiary Institutions resumed to finish their courses.

These Teachers were also expecting some incentives from the Government as they were equally serving as frontline teachers and were risking their lives. Some were expecting a tax waiver just like the health sector workers but the government didn't respond.

Has the government forgotten about teachers?

Information that I am picking up indicates that there are surprising Packages for all teachers this month. The president himself will ensure that the incentives are given to the teachers.

We believe strongly that the government is going to pay the professional allowance and other allowances such as responsibility allowance, and all outstanding arrears.

The reason is simple. This year is an election year and the government can not afford to incur the wrath of teachers. Otherwise, the election will take him by surprise. Note that efforts are being made to confirm from CAD if the rumors are true.
