| DOME KWABENYA CONSTITUENCY COMMENDS H.E. NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO FOR HIS RECOGNITION AND UNFLINCHING REMEMBRANCE TOWARDS THEIR SUCCESS AND CALLS FOR MORE APPOINTMENTS TO LESSEN THE BURDEN THAT RESTS ON THEM |
Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, thank you for honouring our call.
Firstly, we would like to place it on record that;
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is under no mandatory obligation to reward people or Constituencies for their hardwork.
However, it is for the purposes of development in freedom and harmony that persons or Constituencies are rewarded or given appointments for their support, hardwork, dedication and participation leading to electoral successes of the New Patriotic Party.
The first term (2017-2020) of the New Patriotic Party in government for Dome Kwabenya Constituency was clamoured with much joy as we did receive our fair share of the national cake.
In consultation with the relevant authorities and accordance with the President's vision, the Member of Parliament in the person of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo was appointed as the 1st female deputy majority leader in Parliament and the first female Minister of State in charge of Ministry of Public Procurement;
Prof. Mike Oquaye was appointed as the Speaker of Parliament, and Mr. Mike Oquaye Junior was appointed as the High Commissioner to India respectively.
Surprisingly again, Dome Kwabenya has not been left out in the distribution of appointments/portfolios in this second term (2020-2024) of the New Patriotic Party in government under the leadership of H.E. Nana Addo. The Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo has once again been rewarded with the ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection for her hardwork and unflinching support towards the progress of the party.
Coincidentally, the passionate activities of the MP had always been geared towards the progress and development of Gender, Children and Social Protection. So it was not much of a surprise when She was asked to take over this entailing but very demanding ministry.
The former high commissioner to India, H.E. Mike Oquaye Jnr, has also been rewarded with appointment as the CEO for Ghana Free Zones Authority. An authority responsible for promoting exports within free zones.
Confessingly, we are most appreciative to the President for his show of remembrance towards Dome Kwabenya, the largest Constituency in Ghana per population and voter size of 173,619 with 356 polling stations and an average polling station size of 488 members.
Over the years since 2012 till date, Dome Kwabenya has become the world bank of the New Patriotic Party with an average parliamentary and presidential votes as follow:
Starting from 2012 - 2020
Average Presidential Votes:
NPP: *67,598 votes*
NDC: *39,171 votes*
Parliamentary
NPP: *67,300 votes*
NDC: *39,006 votes*
Based on the above figures, we, the people of Dome Kwabenya Constituency, can only profess the words of Oliver Twist, and ask for more appointments from His Excellency the President since there are more equally qualified youth in Dome Kwabenya who when given appointment will lessen the heaviest unemployment burden and responsibility that rest on Dome Kwabenya Constituency and most especially, the indomitable Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarah A. Safo.
This, notwithstanding, we are very much grateful for the recognition accorded us by the President, and we hope that, our request for more appointments in order to easily break the 8 will become a reality.
