The Akatsi South Municipality was thrown into a state of shock and dismay Friday, 4th November 2021 after news broke that, one of our evergreen future leaders, Master Etornam Avulekpor died, whilst in police custody. As a concerned youth activist, whose Electoral Area has been hard hit with this sad news, I sympathise with the immediate family of Etornam, his colleagues and the entire youth fraternity of Akatsi South Said Shine Agoraor.
Speaking with www.EweGhana.Net Mr Shine said, under no circumstance must life be lost while being taken through the rigorous processes to ascertain an alleged crime commitment, especially when the latter is being spearheaded by the very people mandated to protect lives and property. It is therefore comprehensible that in the spirit of solidarity, the irritate youth have thronged the Akatsi Police Station on Friday evening, to demand answers for the mysterious death of a young lad. This was characterised by some hours of roadblock within the Police Station area.
Mr Shine spoke with the reporter adding, we are grateful calm has been restored someway, somehow to the Municipality but let's not pretend that is the end. Nelson Mandela once said that the chains on any one of my people were the chains on all of them, and the chains on all of my people were the chains on me. In this vein, the police administration should as a matter of urgency, unlock this chain on the youth in the coming days by making available a professional investigative report regarding the death of Etornam. The youth front also demands an autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death of Etornam. This, I trust the police would do without an iota of hesitation.
While at it, Mr Shine uses the opportunity to urge the youth to exercise absolute restrain, and give our men in uniform the benefit of the doubt to carry out their investigation.
He believed that when two elephants fight, the grass remains the sufferer. We want peace, cooperation and harmonious existence between we the youth and the police administration in the Municipality and we do not envisage acts of clashes that have characterized certain parts of the country to be extended to Akatsi he added.
Mr Shine called on the Regional Police command, the Municipal Inspector as well as the Municipal Chief Executive to liaise with the family of the deceased in bringing this matter under total control through an amicable solution. This is the only way we can demonstrate to society that every life circumstances.
He finally plead with his revered Chiefs of Avenorland to rise to the occasion on this troubling matter. Rumours have it that, the deceased suspect was manhandled while in police custody. And this is where the irritate youths are finding it difficult to come to terms with the death.
He urged that, Irrespective of the outcome of the autopsy, the chiefs must play a critical role in bringing total understanding between the family of Avulekpor and the police. This should be done with utmost objectivity, taking into consideration conflict of interest and this should precede any plans of burial, to avoid any incidence of unforeseen clashes in the Municipality he concluded
