DWABEN EFFIDUASE WAR: Dwaben and Effiduase have enjoyed a very good relationship as neighbours since the formation of the Asante Kingdom

Dwaben and Effiduase have enjoyed a very good relationship as neighbours since the formation of the Asante Kingdom but according oral sources, after the Asante Krepi war (1869-1872), the Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of Dwaben Nana Kwasi Boaten wanted to take away the Afiafi god from Effiduase to make them powerful.

This Afiafi god is believed to have accompanied Nana Frimpɔn Mposu, his nephew Ameyaw of Bretuo clan and their forefathers from Ahensan in Adanse to their present location.

Dwabenmanhene was the friend of the Priestess of Afiafi god of Effiduase. One afternoon, the Priestess fell into a trance and informed the then Chief of Effiduase Nana Yaw Omane that danger will happened to Effiduaseman that mid night in the sense that the Paramount Chief of Dwaben and his army are planning to take away the Afiafi god.

Nana Yaw Omane also gathered his army and orchestrated a plan. Later in the night as usual Paramount Chief of Dwaben Nana Kwasi Boaten accompanied by his linguist, came to visit the Priestess. Per the plan of the Effiduasehene, Nana Kwasi Boaten was attacked and beheaded and his linguist was captured to voice out their attacking plan.

 The linguist led them through the Afiafi forest to expose their army. Upon reaching the bank of the Afiafi River, he employed some incarnations and suddenly, their army popped up like swarm of bees.

As they tried to attack the Effiduase army at the bank of the river Afiafi, they were swallowed one after the other in the mud of the river leaving their guns in the river. 

The Effiduase army was amazed and called the Afiafi River “ɔmene apem” which literally means “swallower of thousands”. They used a knife known as “sepow” to thrust through the mouth of the linguist of Dwaben to render him speechless.

The Effiduase army left the forest unhurt and chanted war songs of victory to the Palace. It’s believed that the remnants of the guns that was been used by the Dwaben army can be found in the Afiafi River till date. 

Later, they sent messengers to inform the Dwaben State to come for their decapitated chief.
