Krapa is a town about 10 miles from Kumase on the Kumase-Accra Road on the east of Edweso. The Krapahene swears to the Asantehene with the Mponponsuo State Sword, the Principal Sword of Amanhene (Paramount chiefs) and other senior chiefs of the component state of the Asante Confederacy use in swearing the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene.
The Krapa Stool is called Ahwatia Peko Stool. It is a stool of a matrilineal descent and belongs to the Aduana clan. It comes under the category of the Kyidom division of Asantehene within the Domakwae group. It is a stool whose origin can be traced from Adanse in the Asante region.
Traditionally, the Krapahene residedat Bodwesango a town 4 miles from Adanse. Whilst in Adanse he was one of the divisional chiefs of Adansehene who was then considered a very powerful chief before he was defeated by Denkyirahene.
As a result of a war which was fought at Asankare, the Krapahene and his people migrated from Bodwesango to Dompoase which is also a town at the present day Adanse.
Kwakye Dapoah, it is said was considered a sort of menace within the community at the time. Kwakye Dapoah was one of the divisional chiefs in Adanse. During the migration of the Krapa people, the Krapahene at that time was Nana Kum Sasraku. Nana Kum Sasraku was succeeded by Nana Ntiamoah Amanuo at Dompoase.
Kwakye Dapoah once waged a war against the immigrants while residents at Dompoase. This time the Krapahene Nana Ntiamoah Amanuo and people fought mercilessly with Kwakye Dapoah.
For the fear of the further invasion by Nana Kwakye Dapoah, the mobilized force of Nana Ntiamoah Amanuo, the chief of the immigrants left Adanse area for good and settled at the present day Krapa.
Nana Ntiamoah Amanuo was succeeded by his nephew Akuoko Brempong; Nana Akuoko Brempong was succeeded by his brother Ogyoma Ankoama; Nana Ogyoma was succeeded by his brother Nana Adusei Boah.
This succession of Nana Adusei Boah, it is said was in the reign of Nana Obiri Yeboah of Kwaman the grand uncle and predecessor of ɔpemsoɔ Osei Tutu I, the founder of the Asante Kingdom.
It will be recalled that during the reign of Nana Obiri Yeboah that Krapahene was placed under the category of Kyidom within the Domakwae Benkum group or Domakwae benkum nson. The Domakwae Benkum Stools includes Dete, Sewua, Amoako, Krapa, Kwoforom, AdensÉ› and Gyinnsa stools.
Nana Adusei Boah was a contemporary of Nana Obiri Yeboah, it is said that Krapahene took part in Dɔmaa war fought at Suntreso in which Nana Obiri Yeboah was defeated. Nana Adusei Boah was succeeded by Nana Asare during the reign of ɔpemsoɔ Osei Tutu I.
Nana Asare took part in which Dɔmaa war where Dɔmaa Kusi was totally defeated at Abɛsim. Nana Asare also took part in the Asante Denkyira war which was fought at Feyiase in which the Denkyirahene Ntim Gyakari was defeated and beheaded by Asante.
Nana Asare was succeeded by Nana Asare Kaakyire during the reign of Asantehene Nana Opoku Ware I, after Nana Asare Kaakyire, was his nephew Nana Akwatia Peko who succeeded him.
After Nana Akwatia Peko, the Krapa Stool became vacant for a long period of time until the reign of Nana Prempeh I that is before his arrest by the British in 1896 that Nana Kwaku Owusu a grandson of the stool was enstooled as the Krapahene.
Nana Kwaku Owusu took part in the Yaa Asantewaa of 1900. He fought on the side of the Golden Stool. Nana Kwaku Owusu who met his natural death on the stool was succeeded by kwabena Nketia whilst the king was still in exile in Seychelles Island. He was on the stool after the returned of Nana Prempeh I in 1924.
Nana Kwabena Nketia was succeeded by Nana Kwame Owusu Afriyie a grandson of the stool in the reign of Nana Osei Agyemang Prempeh II. After Nana Kwame Owusu Afriyie various chiefs have ascended on the Krapa stool. Nana Antwi is said to be the last chief of Krapa but after his demise, the Krapa stool has been vacant till date.
