Onah Chisom Jennifer has dedicated her Birthday to bringing aware to this topic: JUNGLE JUSTICE

According to Wikipedia, Jungle justice or mob justice is defined as an form of public extrajudicial killings in Sub-Saharan Africa, most notably Nigeria and Cameroon, where an alleged criminal is humiliated, beaten or summarily executed by a crowd or vigilantes.

There are so many things wrong with Jungle justice but one of the scariest is that it is most often an allegation, leaving ample chances that an innocent individual is likely to fall victim of mob action, or even in a situation where the individual is guilty, a mob action might be 'too much' (it is actually never) punishment for an offence.

One might want to ask why this has become so rampant in this part of the world and the reason is not far fetched; a combination of the failings of the law enforcement and judiciary arm of our country.

The law enforcement agents are almost always not present to prevent crimes, so the populace has taken up the vigilante responsibility and that easily come with the urge to mate our punishment to those who they have found wanting.

In some cases, the populace feels that the justice system is too slow or in other cases, not accurate hence the need to employ a more expeditious and accurate means.

Jungle justice remains an issue that needs to be addressed, and this can be done by addressing the underlying factors which are by building robust law enforcement agencies and reliable justice system.
